An Introduction to My Work

I am inspired by and enjoy working with youth and adults who are struggling with substance abuse, addiction, and mental health problems. I am moved by their deep searching, fierce energy, and ferocious hunger for "something" to fill them up. In my work I provide inspiration, knowledge, guidance, support, compassion, and recovery coaching.

The concept that "what is in the way is the way" has been a guiding principal in my counseling work. My goal is to help others find their own answers and to feel safe as I walk beside them down painful paths.

My counseling practice is called Imperfect Healer. The name is a reflection of the deep humility I feel in working with individuals and families that are desperate to find answers to their struggles. I help provide realistic solutions and both encourage, and model, a sense of vulnerability that leads to healing. I encourage openness, the expression of emotions, the courage to ask for help, and the confidence that the answers that we seek are within us. The Raven for me is my spirit helper, and provides me with inspiration to help "free individuals from the shadows of their own past."

I have worked in adolescent and adult chemical dependency and mental health counseling for over 32 years. I am licensed by the State of Washington as both a Mental Health Counselor and a Chemical Dependency Professional. I am also a nationally certified addiction counselor.

I specialize, and am highly skilled in counseling, training, and consultation in marijuana addiction and recovery, youth and adult addiction, youth co-occurring disorders, family intervention and recovery, counselor self-care, father and son healing work, and sexual orientation development.

I have lived on Vashon Island for over 18 years, and call it my home and community. My fees are reasonable and flexible, and I require payment at the time of each session. This allows me to not have to bill you for services. Flexible arrangements can be negotiated.
